A career tool that does the math

Find work you'd actually enjoy that still pays the rent.

Most career quizzes hand you a list of job titles and wish you luck. KoolCareers starts with who you are, checks every path against what you need to earn where you live, and helps you test it in the real world before you leap.

  • 5 paths or fewer, never fifty
  • Local pay against your own line
  • 30-day real-world experiments
The honest problem
$36,860what a recreation worker earns near Sarasota
$48,694what one adult needs there to get by
−$11,834the gap no personality quiz mentions

The jobs that sound fun and the jobs that pay rent are often different jobs. KoolCareers puts both on the same page, so you can see where they overlap and what it takes to close the gap.

Pay: BLS 2025 data for the North Port–Bradenton–Sarasota metro, via O*NET. Living wage: MIT Living Wage Calculator, January 2026 data. Your own city's numbers replace these when you set your location.

How it works

From "I have no idea" to a plan you've already started testing

  1. 1

    Start with you

Five questions about your edge, the scattered clues of your life, and a two-minute interest quiz. The AI finds the through-line you can't see from inside.

  2. 2

    Set what matters

Dial every interest and need from 0 to 5. Anything at 5 is a deal-breaker. Add your own, from "being on the water" to "home by 3".

  3. 3

See paths against your pay line

A short list, never fifty. Each path shows a realistic local pay range next to the income you need and the local living wage.

  4. 4

    Check your gut

Read a normal Tuesday in each life and react before you think. See where your head and your gut disagree.

  5. 5

    Do the math

Stack a day job, your own thing and side income until the total clears your line. Self-employment counts here.

  6. 6

    Try it for real

Small experiments you can do this week, with outreach messages drafted for you. Log how each one felt. The feeling is the data.

The Paths tab: career paths ranked by fit out of 100, each with a pay range bar set against your own pay line and the local living wage
Every path against your pay line. A fit score you can argue with, and a pay bar that shows at a glance whether the job can cover your life.
The work-style quiz showing one question at a time with five answer buttons and a progress bar
Two-minute start. One question at a time, first reactions only.
The Home tab with a next-step card, a progress bar and a small plant that grows as steps are finished
Always a next step. Eight short steps and a plant that grows as you finish them.
The Gut check tab: cards describing a normal Tuesday in each job, with Yes that's me, Maybe and No thanks buttons
A Tuesday in each life. Read the honest version of the day, then say how it lands.
Your planning partner

An AI that edits the plan with you, not at you

Ask it to add a path, re-weight your interests, rebuild your income mix or draft a message to someone doing the job you're curious about. It shows exactly what it changed, and one tap undoes it. It remembers what you've told it, so you never start over.

  • Honest about money. It will tell you when a path can't reach your line.
  • Never invents pay data. Estimates are labelled as estimates.
  • Changes nothing unless you ask, and lists every change.
Who it's for

Made for the "I could do anything, so I do nothing" moment

🌊

The fun-job hunter

You want work on the water, on a stage, around people. You also want to make rent. KoolCareers shows which of those jobs can pay and how to stack the ones that can't.

🔁

The career changer

Fifteen years in one field and no idea what transfers. The edge finder names what you're good at that other people pay for, then builds paths around it.

🧩

The side-hustler

You've got a thing on the side and a day job you tolerate. The money tab does the math on when the side thing can carry more of the load.

Inside the tool

A planning partner, not a verdict

Your edge

Five sharp questions find the combination of skills, access and experience that's hard for anyone else to copy. Paths get built around it.

Through-line finder

List the scattered clues of your life. The AI names the pattern underneath and turns it into interests you can dial.

Three futures

Sketch three different five-year lives, a method from Stanford's Designing Your Life course. It loosens the grip of "the one right answer".

Head versus gut

Your scores say one thing, your reaction says another. The tool puts them side by side and asks the useful question.

Ikigai, filled in for you

What you love, what you're good at, what pays and what the world needs, drawn from what you've already entered. One question left to answer.

Questions

Good things to ask

Is this a personality test?

No. The short quiz uses the six interest types career counsellors have relied on for decades, but it's a conversation starter, not a validated psychometric test. The real work is what comes after it.

Where does the pay data come from?

The starter paths use local job listings and US Bureau of Labor Statistics figures, with sources shown in the tool. When the AI suggests a new path, its pay range is a rough estimate and the tool says so. Always check live listings.

Does the AI make decisions for me?

It never changes your plan unless you ask or agree, it lists every change, and you can undo it. It isn't a lawyer or a financial advisor, and it will tell you when something is a guess.

I don't live in Florida. Will it work?

Yes. Tell it where you live and it builds starter paths for your area with a living-wage estimate, plus links to the public wage data so you can check the numbers.

Who can see my plan?

Inside the app, only you. Your plan is stored in a database protected so each account can read only its own row. Like any hosted service, the people who run the servers have technical access to stored data.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Every tab works on a phone, and the chat opens as a full-screen panel. A laptop is nicer for the longer writing steps.
